A Portrait of Bill May, 2004, video (7:15), photographic portrait, sculpture

In the late eighties Sarah Baker and Bill May competed as synchronized swimmers nationally which led to mutual respect and friendship. By 1999, Bill May was the United States National Champion in all synchronsized swimming events, however the world may never know if Bill May could achieve his ultimate goal of an Olympic gold medal because men are excluded from competing in these Olympic events. Inspired by his poignant story and struggle for recognition, in this portrait Baker evokes Bill May’s tale.
