In 1848 James Marshall discovered gold near his sawmill in Coloma, California. At the time Californian population was less than 8,000 and within two years the California gold rush brought over 200,000 people from around the world to California. People were driven by the notion to get rich quick- synchronous with contemporary Californian Dream to get rich and famous quick.
